In Response....

I have had a few responses... one post, some emails, and some guests dropping by my office. It's great to know there is support for the market - whether it is the drive to Oxdrift, the atmosphere of the market or the desire of the market to be in Dryden - there is support.

Are there other ways to support local produce that just a Farmers’ Market?

Try out - Savour Ontario – http://www.foodland.gov.on.ca/savour/en/index.html

A program built by the partnership of Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Ministry of Tourism and the Ontario Tourism Partnership Corporation. It is all about moving local produce into restaurants.

Would you try a food item on the menu because it contained fresh local produce?

Will this work in Dryden?

What other ways could we support Agriculture in the area?

~ just some food for thought! ~

"Growing an Open Discussion"

Welcome to a blog dedicated to discussion LOCAL FOODS!

There is a vast variety in which a discussion can grow on local foods. To start, I will plant some seeds with the results of the 2009 Cloverbelt Farmers’ Market surveys. The following points are to produce more thoughts, ideas and inputs to further support Agricultural in the Dryden area.

- 27% of those surveyed visit the Oxdrift market once per month
- 97% of the Dryden area residents are interested in local foods
- 73% ranked the produce sold at the market at a higher quality versus the store bought produce
- Location of the market…About 60% of those surveyed believed the market would be more successful if it was located in downtown Dryden
- Strawberries, carrots and potatoes are the top requests at the Farmers’ Market

Please comment on the points above or anything else that comes to mind...
